Pump Features Used in the Paint Industry

Cast iron pumps are generally sufficient for most paints. However, for some water-based and specialty paints, stainless steel may be required. Internal eccentric gear pumps provide a continuous and consistent flow rate. Additionally, gear and lobe pumps are used to handle bulk raw materials for paints, such as resins, latex, solvents, oils, carriers, and additives. Paints contain abrasive pigments, which vary depending on the specific pigment color, but examples include titanium dioxide, iron oxide, and carbon black. These pumps are specifically designed to combat the wear caused by these fine abrasives. Features such as abrasion-resistant seals, tungsten carbide wear pins, and a seal support plan to keep particles away from the seal help extend the pump’s lifespan.
